The River Bann drains Lough Neagh and can be found near the towns of Coleraine, Kilrea and Portglenone.

Description:

The River Bann is one of the most famous European Hybrid and has hosted a number of major events. Some of the top fishermen in Europe, including John Wilson, have fished the famous stretch of river at Newferry, outside Bellaghy

 Much of the river is slow flowing but at certain points there are weirs and lock gates which create holding pools for the fish. The seven year average for this stretch is 1, 160 fish on a six-rod beat. The River Bann is one of the best known coarse fisheries in Europe, with the reaches in the Portadown area established as big match venues.

Coarse fishing is excellent in the Lower Bann (north of Lough Neagh until it runs into the sea at Coleraine) and pike fishing is particularly good in the areas around Lough Beg. There is a bag limit of 2 pike per day and pike of 4kg (8.8 lb) and over must be returned to the water. Anglers should remember that the river is used for water sports, such as boating and canoeing, and courtesy should be exercised at all times.

Fine Atlantic salmon can be caught in the summer months by the persistent fisherman as they are very elusive.Much of the river is slow flowing but at certain points there are weirs and lock gates which create holding pools for the fish. The seven year average for this stretch is 1, 160 fish on a six-rod beat. Culiff Rock and Portna are considered the best stretches. The Craigavon Borough Council has constructed a number of fishing stands, including some for use by disabled anglers in Hoy\'s Meadow ( going out of Portadown via Bridge Street crossing the Bann Bridge and take the second street to the left, Watson Street). Anglers should remember that the river is used for water sports- boating, canoeing etc and courtesy should be exercised at all times.
