The Ree is a large lake and is best fished from a boat. Fish contained here include Bream, Rudd, Roach, Hybrids, Tench, Perch, Pike and Eel. The Cut, just out from Lanesborough can be fished easily, because it is not exposed to the strong winds that you can expect on big water.

It is the second largest lake on the river Shannon with good access at the car park in Coosan Point. Fishing in this lake is for stocks of Trout with some coarse fish. The best time for the Trout fishing is from mid May, with some averaging over 2 lbs.

Season:

Salmon and Sea trout season is between February 01st - September 30th.

Methods:

Fly and spin.

Cost: Fishing in this lake is regarded as free. Boat hire is available at S.G.S. Marine, Ballykeeran in Co. Westmeath.
