Although they can be caught from the shore, wreck fishing is the only way to catch the true monsters - although it is possible to catch them, no conger over 100lbs has been captured off the Irish coastline. Like the freshwater eel they are bottom feeders scavenging almost anything that they come into contact with. Mackerel, shrimps, crabs or pretty much anything will tempt the conger but be careful as they will wrap themselves round the nearest impediment they can - strike and reel hard to get them off the ground as quickly as possible. |
