| Three dorsal and two anal fins. Distinctive lateral white line running from just above the gill, following the curvature of the body until it reaches the tailfin. Brownish back with white belly and generally has a mottled back. A cod under 5lb is referred to as a codling. |
Cod have voracious appetites and can be caught using a wide variety of bait, including, mackerel, crabs, mussels, lures etc. Not widely caught from shore, you really need to take a boat offshore as they particularly like lurking around wrecks. |
All year round but can be caught particularly prevalently during the colder months or in deeper, colder water. |
